Swahili is a fairly recent combination of Bantu and Arabic. The Primal Slayer carried an iron knife so she wasn't all that ancient either. As for Africa, well, the Joshua tree, Yucca brevifolia, has a limited range from the Sonoran Desert in western Arizona to the San Bernardino Mountains in California, so they were probably closer to LA.

2003-02-18 21:57:00-05:00 - The Ubie Family Reunion (Get It Done Spoilers) - (DarkMagic <slnospambilan@comcast.net>)

It sure is great to have everyone together again. Grandpa Skank, Aunt Slaughter, Cousin Claw....it's been an ice age since the last family gathering. Spoilers Now they're reunited for a devilish debacle of apocalyptic proportions. The stuff of a Slayer's nightmares. I hope FE ordered enough chicken fingers. Other than the splendiferous all Ubie ending, I thought this episode was really an exercise in pointing out the obvious. Yes, Principal Wood, it was indeed Spike who killed your Mother the Slayer, and no surprises here, you're feelin' a little bit cranky about it. Plus, I thought you should know that once you know you're a sexy, demon fighting guy well.....it takes away a little from the appeal. Spike, are you truly shocked to find out that your somewhat less of a monster with the soul? And quite a bit more dull? Didn't I tell you not to go get that damn thing for Buffy's sake? Did you read any of my posts last season? Kennedy, Willow *does* have real magic issues. The world ending thing, not a joke. Andrew, I'll e-mail you my recipe for funnel cake Buffy, three words for you, "NO MORE PORTALS". Portals bad, tree pretty. Okay, now for continuity. Where the hell was Giles? Wasn't Anya Buffy's friend a few episodes back after Buffy saved her life and let her move in? If she's not, I sure as hell think she ought to refrain from mentioning it to a tired, put-out, Slayer. Now, didn't ancient African Shaman guys have on considerably more clothing than the primal Slayer ever wore? Aren't they quite a bit more articulate than she was? Am I the only one who pretty much imagined that primal Slayer had just crawled out of a cave? I think Buffy made the right choice, plentitude of Ubies not withstanding. Cordelia made a demonizing deal with the devil for power and look where it's gotten her. Did any of those guys resemble Skip? -- Shannon Cordelia: "Angel is only happy when he's fighting evil. Let's drum up a little!" Doyle: "I don't know why we're looking for evil when we got you here."

Buffy had her vision quest in that same location, and Giles took the SITs into that same desert. Maybe a different dimension, but I don't see why it needs to be. ME found and actress that speaks some Cantonese probably taught to her by her parents. They didn't know it wasn't good Cantonese because they don't speak Cantonese. I speak German, and I sound pretty good to non Germans. To real Germans I have an American Swiss accent that some find annoying.
