Thanks to a nice person on this newsgroup(who shall remain nameless to prevent this person from being inundated with requests) I was able to watch "contact" again through the miracle of videotape. When this episode first aired, we all obsessed on Richard Grace's saying "YOUR wife?" to Tom when Tom alludes to Allison- implying that she is not, in fact, Tom's wife but someone elses. I don't believe anyone pointed out what "The Voice" said earlier on in the confessional though. He used the same exact line but with a different emphasis. "The Voice"(aka "Deep Throat" aka "Mr. Hale" said: "Your WIFE?" Which seems to imply that, if Allison did have a relationship with Tom, it was not a spousal one. Taken together this seems to inicate that Allison is married but not to Tom. But she does have some sort of relationship to Tom(Mistress? Colleague?) Discuss. :)

In fact, when I watched it I noted some very unusual echos (parentheticly below...) As Allison points a gun(!) at Tom... TV: What do you want? (What do you want?) Allison: The negatives. (We want in-formation) TV: Who are you? (Who are you?) Allison: You know who I am. (The new number 2.) TV: Who are "they?" (Whose side are you on?) Allison: That would be telling. (That would be telling.) ...I trust you get the idea (even if my NwM quotes are quite precise) If TV is himself the chairman (#1), wouldn't it make sense for his wife to be #2? In fact, Through a lens Darkly seems to make the point that Allison is INDEED wife #2... And many in THEM circles may no be aware that TV has a wife, or that Alyson is his wife. Also possible, is that in her THEM role, she has another husband. > The sceine near the end of the 6May96 episode actually makes the > between Tom and Allison very clear. If you had been Tom, beleiving that your wife loved you at one time and was actually your wife, and now seeing her desperate for the negatives, you might also ask, "Who are you?". That is, "I thought you were my wife, but now you seem to be one of THEM." It could also be that she says, "You know who I am, a killer bimbo." If that's the case, is there a real Alyson, or is there only one Alyson, a killer bimbo? That might make the bimbo role very interesting indeed since she would have lived with him a while, perhaps "prepping" him to be an operative for THEM? SS

The only question is, what did the writer intend to communicate? That assumes that "the suits" at Disney/UPN haven't mucked it up again and that what we are discussing in REAL NwM and not HollyBank crud... Anyhow, from the first episode, Allison has appeared several times in a context that provides strong circumstantial evidence that she is one of Them or is working for Them. This episode simply made VERY PLAIN what other episodes have hinted at. We are in agreement as the roles of "killer bimbo" and "the new #2" are not much different in this context!
