Hi, I'm new here and was wondering if any cable stations are currently rerunning the original show. I read the thread where most fans are considering the new show to be poor in comparison, and I'd like to see the old show and decide for myself. I know it's available on video, but I'd rather not buy all the old tapes at this time. I really don't understand -- the original Outer Limits is considered to be a classic, and yet even the Sci Fi channel isn't airing it (although they rerun The Twilight Zone to death). Is TNT or WTBS showing it at some odd hour, like 3 or 4 AM? Just wondering, Pam

A lot of video shops have the tapes for RENT. I suggest you check it out. My own opinion is that the new Limits is like the pulp sf of the 40s and 50s (science runs amok), while the old was like the pulp sf of the 20s and 30s (monsters and creatures run amok). And both did equally well with what they had. "It is said that Music is a universal language, crossing the barriers of culture, age, and language. Perhaps, eventually, we will learn that it also spans those of time... and space."

And both did equally :well with what they had. Well I figured someone would mention tape rentals, so I'll pass on this bit of info: 1) Most stores don't stock tapes for rental that aren't in high demand (at least in my area, anyway). They don't make much money on tapes that only a handful of people rent. 2) Rental tapes are usually *extremely* dirty. Also, most dry cleaning tapes are the equivalent of sandpaper on your video heads. Not a problem if you have a cheap machine, but a big deal if you have an expensive unit. (I have a semi-pro S-VHS deck I don't want to ruin with rentals or dry cleaning tapes.) So for the most part, I don't rent tapes much. I have an old unit I could use for that purpose, but isn't hooked up. Mostly I make my own tapes or buy new (prerecorded) tapes. That's why I was hoping some cable station would start rerunning the old show, it would just be less trouble that way. Plus it's a really good show, why *wouldn't* they be rerunning it? Not complaining, just explaining, Pam

Last year they tried running it at 12 noon during the summer and the ratings were not good. The program is a "favorite" of TNTs programmers and will be shown sooner or later according to them. Having seen the program when it aired in the 60s I still think it was one of the best shows of its kind. Try some E-Mail to TNT, they will respond. Morgan

I'll keep an eye out for when TNT brings it back.

TNT owns the rights to it, as well as The New Twilight Zone. I actually spoke to one of their programming guys last year though because in the Summer of 97 they did old Outer Limits and New Twilight Zone back to back, and he told me that the ratings for old OL were not good, and he claims it is because they are black and white. Consequently, they only play it once in a blue moon, late at night. The last time I recall was on Harlan Ellison's birthday when they did the two episodes he wrote back to back starting at midnight. Go figure!
