Not the ending I expected. I was waiting for the attendant (nursing assistant?), who was helping the couple to escape, to double-cross them at the last moment & lead them to the waiting authorities. Either that or, once they escaped with their healthy baby, the kid mutating before their eyes - then a cut to the doctor, holding the REAL healthy baby in his arms. "Oh no, switched at birth!" So, the ending was a nice surprise. Personally, I wish nOL would do more stories like this, and 'Music of the Spheres'. Not so much for the "happy endings" but for the fact it doesn't rely on invading aliens as the antagonist.

For my money DARK RAIN is the best thing going under the Outer Limits name, because it is PURELY a story of a terrible, yet plausible event and the society that arises as a result. And that is the basic definition of SF: extrapolations from science. AND it is about human beings I can relate to. Even Dr. Royce is hardly a "villain" in the traditional sense. Shame, really. I didn't care much for it. Oh, well. -- Mike Horne mike@whispers.demon.co.uk * http://www.whispers.demon.co.uk "They say life is a river..."
