I didn't catch the credits for the last new episode, "Child Within", but it strongly reminded me of "Shatterday" by Harlan Ellison, but not nearly as good. Was Ellison involved in this episode?

No, it was written by Grant Rosenberg, a person whose work has rarely impressed me. This was about as good as GR's work gets: a minor entry, to be sure, and one in which, typically, the ramifications of the premise have been barely thought out. His recent time travel story, BREAKING POINT, is MUCH worse than INNER CHILD, and a real comedown for the series that gave us STITCH IN TIME and TRIBUNAL, the latter probably the best time travel story in the history of Tee Vee SF.
