HEART'S DESIRE (A.K.A. The Episode Most Reminiscent of the Original Series) I thought this was one of the better Season 3 episodes, and, with its minimal special effects & character-driven story, it reminded me of the original 60s series quite a bit. The tone & message, especially, reminded me a bit of "The Man Who Was Never Born" and "The Children of Spider County"... Good stuff.

Brennert seems to have a good idea of what made OL OL. Though I think we disagree on this, his SECOND SOUL was the ep that convinced me the new OL could be OL again, not just another anthology series. DARK MATTERS was another Gothic/SF gem, and what was THE REFUGE but an updating of THE GUESTS, with Weird Science standing in for the Lovecraftian monster of the original? I liked HEART'S DESIRE quite a bit, though there is some lousy acting in that ep that prevents me giving it the highest rating. The alien's speech at the end is not far in spirit from the conclusion of THE ZANTI MISFITS. Once again, we are "practiced executioners". No, we agree. SECOND SOUL was the first ep. that really said 'Outer Limits' to me too, and it's still my favorite nOL ep.
