What is 'The Outer Limits'? Its a tv show, bucko. But then, the alt.tv. hierarchy probably gave that away. Two versions exist. The original series, shot in glorious black & white, ran from 1963 to 1965 with 49 episodes total. It came and went over the years in local syndication and can now be seen weekdays, 9am pst / 12pm est, on the TNT cable network. Additionally, Showtime began a new version of 'The Outer Limits' about three years ago. In full color, these episodes can currently be seen each Sunday night on Showtime. They are then broadcast (one season behind) in syndication worldwide. Check local listings. What genre is it? It is a drama with sf/horror elements, consistent with current scientific knowledge, that explores the human situation. Many episodes contain what soon became the series' trademark element - a feature that set it apart from similar shows (like Twilight Zone) - a scarifying monster. How does that opening monologue go? Ah, yes. Many people remember the opening monologue even if they don't recall specific episodes. Here it is. . . "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. We will control the horizontal, we will control the vertical. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... THE OUTER LIMITS." (TOL FAQ v.3) post public followups with add. faq's or comments. ..... the preceding was from the brain of Colonel Barham.

In 30 years of TV watching, I've never seen anything come close. I'm speaking, of course, of the old series. The new ones are... OK, but not in the same league. To this day, I enjoy watching the old shows; I find new things in it that I hadn't understood before, as I mature. There is great wisdom, great concepts here, that literally was one of the primary shaping forces in my life. I hope to have intelligent discussions concerning the show with you.
