2001-04-28 22:30:14+00:00 - (SPOILERS) REPLICA - best of the 7th season so far - (stoodin101@aol.com)

While last week's MONA LISA was ahead of the game thanks to the two strong lead characters, REPLICA has just as good a cast, clever direction (by MONA LISA director Brad Turner)and a better script. This is the first OL Sam Egan has written for a while that shows us the same talent that gave us TRIBUNAL; certainly none of his 6th season eps came close. THE VESSEL was ok, but it had a bit too much paint-by-number about it; REPLICA has the old OL spirit. Sherilyn Fenn and Peter Outerbridge are great in their parts; it amused me to hear music from Outerbridge's first OL, THE NEW BREED, during the creation of the clone. And nice to see a conclusion that isn't destructo; I saw this ending as a possibility early on, but with this series you never know what's going to happen. I'm sure that more than one viewer thought that it might also end with both his wife and her clone dead, and him alone and guilty of murder.Or with HIM dead, and the two women left to face justice. The ending scene, where the characters all happily drink a toast "To Science!" seems like almost a deliberate slap in the face at all the critics who have derided OL for its "anti-Science" attitude. And they had it coming. "Music is not a language; it doesn't have the task of expressing something through sounds and symbols. Music stands by itself; there's nothing beyond it."---Iannis Xenakis Cthulhu Mythos site: http://go.to/letters_from_outside

Yep, it was definitely ranging toward the edge of a nasty violent cliff. Hmmm. Not sure about that one, they still may be having a bit of fun with "scientists". Any consensus on whose personalit(ies) made it through the wringer? -- Dan Hartung * dan [at] dhartung [dot] com Lake Effect weblog: http://www.lakefx.nu/
