Visitor sucks!!!!!!!! Fox only bought the series because of 1.names attatched to the show(Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin) 2.Fox would pay hugh penalty if they didn't buy the show. So if you are angry at Fox for canning Sliders, you can do two things; 1.Write a letter of protest to FOX. 2.Don't watch Visitor.

I predict there'll be some gorgeous and expensive FX work in the pilot, which will be throttled back massively for subsequent shows, and the rest of the series, however many get made, will just be Yet Another Travelling Angel horsepuckey. We don't even need to see the list of the writers contracted, since we know the names of the producer and format creator. Season 2 of "M.A.N.T.I.S." will probably turn out to have been better.

I don't either of these will have any effect, to be honest. I think we should stop trying to protest Fox, be glad they finally released "Sliders" from their insane grip, and turn out attention to making sure Universal gets the show right. >><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><<>><< Nigel Mitchell zikzak23[at]pipeline[dot]com To reply, replace the "at" and "dot" in the above email address with appropriate symbols. As networks get desperate due to declining ratings, they try to secure promising looking shows by promising to pay hugh penalties if they didn't pick up the show. For some high profile shows like Time Cop and Visitor, the penalty is so high that the network would lose less money ordering the show and watch it bomb than to cancel the project. After ID4, Fox was willing to buy anything Emmerich and Devlin had to sell to them, so they made full commitment to Visitor even before the show was fully developed. Thanks to high penalty associated with cancellation of Visitor, Visitor was vitually assured to get a slot in Fall 1997 regardless of its quality. > Actually, if you're not a Neilson ... you can watch and just tell them you're > not ... I did like a lot of the FX in ID4 but poor acting and bad writing should have killed it. it just goes to show you where movies have gone in the US. Sliders needed some better writers, I still love that type of show (loved Quantum Leap and Time Tunnel) Any show I like gets pulled, QL, Poffit, American Gothic... Ed

John I HAD to laugh when I read your posting about the macabre poster of Jon-Erik information. Just in case there was some confusion, I am a 28-year-old female who had a terrible crush on Jon-Erik from the first moment I saw him that remains to this day. I maintain the Jon-Erik Hexum Remembrance Page as a way to keep his memory alive, not to nitpick the details of his death. Only a small portion of the site is dedicated to the actual details surrounding his death; as supporting evidence, if you will. "Voyagers!" was destroyed because it was placed up against "60 Minutes". Jon-Erik then went on to make "Male Model" and had a role in "The Bear Bryant Story". He died on the set of "Cover-Up" in October of 1984. His replacement was the Australian actor Antony Hamilton. I stopped watching after Jon-Erik's death, but the show was soon cancelled thereafter. Hamilton died last year of complications from AIDS. Strangely, Jon-Erik seems to be making a comeback. There have been recent articles about him in "The NY Times" and "Detour Magazine". I have several photos from "Male Model", but no video freezes. I have just uploaded a .mov of the "Cover-Up" intro if anyone is interested. http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/1744/Jon_Erik_Hexum.html -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet

God of Tapes wrote: > > So, let's see. > THE VISITOR is basically THE PHOENIX recycled. I would accept this assertion, except that Devlin & Emmerich have clearly demonstrated a degree of ignorance the genre which is second only to the toweringly magnificent incompetence of Morgan & Wong, or the folks who made "EARTH 2." With Devlin & Emmerich, it's quite possible they never saw an episode of "STARMAN" or "THE PHOENIX," and think they invented the idea. > TIMECOP is bascially TIMETRAX recycled. Not quite. The original comic books showed that the writers involved had some familiarity with the genre; not great literature, but often competent, interesting storytelling. Ford A. Thaxton wrote: > > Shouldn't we wait and see the finished program before > passing judgement? > Wasn't TIME COP based on some sort of comic book? > Oh, we'll watch a couple of episodes, yes indeedy..... with nil expectations. The show will play like a cross between "STARMAN" and "EARTH 2." (I.e. a SkiFfy "Travelling Angel" from space, produced by people who can't tell magic from science, and don't care.) If Devlin & Emmerich hire competent writers and production staff and keep their noses out of the operation, it could actually be worthwhile; and if it is, rest assured I'll be mentioning how glad I am to be proven wrong. But, having seen Devlin & Emmerich productions in the past, I'm not expecting this contingency to eventuate. As for "fault," I keep hearing that FOX had a contract which required them to purchase a series from Devlin & Emmerich; with limited nights and slots available, the show had to be put *somewhere*, and FOX already had a high-budget, low-ratings show that was ripe for the axe.... but who knows if they'd have been in such a rush to dispose of "SLIDERS" if they hadn't had something to substitute, and an incentive to put that show into production? > All we have next season is voyager, B5, DS9, the Visitor, and maybe one > more. That sucks. So this means we should actively support anything that looks like SkiFfy when it shows up on the tube? This is a nonsensical stance; if we support bad shows because they have space ships or aliens in them, we'll just get more bad shows with space ships and aliens. > So does the Sci-Fi channel with the crappy movies > they keep showing. They make Science Fiction look stupid with the old > crap they show. More to the point, the "Sci-Fi" channel regards the show material as hugely secondary to commercial time, and rarely runs anything uncut. You lose anywhere from three to ten minutes per air hour of program material in shows on the "Sci-Fi" channel, so they can stuff in more commercials. This is the major reason for emitting Bronx Raspberries in the general direction of the "Sci-Fi" channel; they have no respect for the material they air. > Can't boycott the little pieces these stations dump our way. We have > to be like a shark and scavenge anything that comes our way. Unacceptable simile, since sharks most often go out and KILL their food, and usually demonstrate a degree of selectivity in choice of target. My suggestion is, watch a couple on the sly (*not* in Neilsen homes!) and if you like it, say so and support it. Otherwise, switch it off and read a book......
