1997-06-17 00:00:00 - Sliders renewed for USA network - (tzbt@aol.com)

I sent an e-mail to Robert K. Weiss, (RKWeiss@aol.com) co-creator of Sliders, asking him if USA had indeed picked up Sliders. Well, you can ask him yourself, but his response to me was a resounding yes! So, let's quit talking about FOX and starting thinking about Sliders on USA! Matt Hutaff hutaff@scf.usc.edu

I Know the show will get better because USA will give it a smaller budget. Just like the first season was. They won't show reruns, it will go back into production. We only have to worry about that if it goes to the sci-fi channel, and that is a long way down the road.

1997-06-18 00:00:00 - Sliders Revived: Apparently TRUE! - (kalelfan@aol.com)

I e-mailed R K Weiss to confirm this, then sent a follow-up e-mail to clarify a few things. He answered both, and in his first response invited me to post. R K Weiss is the co-creator of Sliders, and that AOL account has come to be accepted as genuinely belonging to him (if you do a Deja News search you'll find about 28 posts by him), so unless someone has hacked into his account to play an elaborate practical joke on all of us, USA Network has ordered 22 new episodes of Sliders. (I specifically asked him, and he confimed 22 new episodes). Weiss could *not* confirm any of the other details I asked him, including: - whether Trace Torme will be involved - when and on what specific channel the eps will start airing - when production will start - which of the four stars, or Rhys-Davies, will be back - any information on foreign sales (e.g., Global in Canada) - when an official press release can be expected Earlier, I tried to confirm the renewal with an employee in the programming department at USA Network. She could not confirm or deny anything, saying only that she knew there were some discussions going on about this and she thought the Sci-Fi Channel was involved. So it seems that we will be getting another season of Sliders, but the various who, what, when, where and how questions have not yet been answered. (And don't any cynics out there pipe up and post "Why?" okay?). Presumably, they're all in the process of trying to finalize some of the outstanding issues before they give us an official press release. KalElFan@aol.com Figures if Sliders can come back, maybe there's hope for L&C

If a pair is to pick up the story line it would have to be Wade and >Remmie's side because Jerry is moving on. That is unless they're going to >change actors on the same character. Wouldn't be the first time. Lot's of ideas. How about replacing Jerry with Logan St. Clair? Or they could do the Alternate Reality Quinn replacement. In fact, not to long ago there was a young actor in, I THINK it was a STARBURST Fruit Chew commercial who looked enough like Jerry to make a pretty good replacement. I was going to write a Fan Fiction sequal to the final episode (and a previous FF Sliders I did) but got distracted with other things. It would have brought back both Logan and Smarter Quinn (still insane) as well as more alternate Quinns you could shake a stick at, Kill Kari, then resurect her, sort of, and bring back the REAL professor (who we all know was stranded on Azure Bridge world :-). Or maybe it was just a high fever I had... >But I have to tell you, if the revamp include Kari they lost a viewer. Yeah, I'd probably agree with you, but I will watch the first few episodes. They may decide NOT to go in that direction. Really, the last few Movie Rip-Off episodes put me a bit off the series. I Hate THAT more than Lowest Common Denominator Weasle Hollywood Thinking. ("heh, if the nudity is RELEVENT to the scene, sure" he said, quietly so nobody would hear him, because he was deeply afraid the weasles would kidnap him and chain him up in a basement somewhere with a typewriter...) >> One thing I think the move to of sliders to USA will do is give them >>a lot more chances to get Kari as naked as possible on TV. I think the big enticement for Jerry to return is give him more episodes to Direct and Write. The one he adapted to the Comic Book Special was pretty good. Jerry's a pretty smart guy, I can only imagine the inward cringing he must have gone through when he got some of the recent scripts. Then of course theres his contract. Anybody know about that? It's a trend you'll have to get used to.. just look at the movie box office receipts.. the top movies are Speed 2, ConAir, and The Lost World.. I saw the latter two.. let me say that Lost World was trying to pander to the worst tastes imaginable.. ConAir was a touch more palatable, but Lost World really is the epitome of what you speak. The problem being of course that because Lost World will make a billion dollars, movie companies will keep pumping out that garbage, and many tv producers will try and follow suit. Look, I'm not gonna get cynical, but I have problems with USA. Generally, the quality of USA series is poor as all Hell and those handful of series they've picked up from other venues (SILK STALKINGS notwithstanding, which I understand actually improved once they replaced the leads) have tended to look less professional. On the other hand, a lower budget *might* mean less a reliance on CGI--which might mean less 'rubbersuit-o-the-week' episodes, which was one of the major flaws of the last season. Maybe we'll see a return to 'pure' SLIDERS with alternative dimensions and character interaction instead of blood and thunder. --Tom "Maybe Some Things (Like L&C) Should Stay Dead, Because They Got so Badly Screwed Up In Their Last Season That There's No turning Back" Deja -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet

Wouldn't be the first time. No--no need to worry. My sources tell me that Jerry is signed to a new season at USA. He was not happy about the way the season ended either, and told the producers he'd be the first one back. And he was--he's already been signed (or so I've been told). But I will double check with my source to confirm this. Shannen
