1997-03-15 00:00:00 - Thought On The Species Episode - (tailer2@aol.com)

Here are my thoughts on tonight's episode. 1. First of all, of course it was Species. I think the writers may have thought that no one saw that movie, and so, if they just changed a few things around, we ("the ignorant viewers") would not make the connections. *Sneaky. Sneaky.* --- Or we would get the reference and think it was clever of them to do their take on that movie. 2. I thought it was a bit contrived that they made Quinn blame himself about causing others to die. I am glad that they mentioned the Professor, however, but, I can't help but think that when they made Quinn yell at Wade, they were just setting it up so Wade could ask Quinn in return if he "had a thing" for Maggie. It was a little too scripted. If they're going to try and build some kind of tension between Wade and Quinn and build some sexual tension between Quinn and Maggie, they could do it a little better. I wanted Wade to say back to Quinn, "How dare you think that I would blame you for the Professor dying!" 3. I gotta ask. Did anyone else have to urge to start shouting out "YES! YES! YES!" "LEAVE HER!" when Quinn said that they would leave Maggie, as the lesser of two evils?? 4. I had mentioned before that I liked this show because of the idea of alternate realities. However, it is getting further away from being REAL-ities. Come on, with the species episode and the zombies. Wasn't it supposed to be about different worlds where people made different choices. How, in g-ds name can a world end up with all of this science ficition crap, whichever it is, (zombies, those flying sting-ray things which I believe eventually led to blinding Spock temporarily), just from Washington not crossing the Delaware when he did, or Lincoln being only wounded from the gunshot. Maybe they are trying to appeal to a broader audience and get on the bandwagon with copying X-files' spookiness (no pun intended). However, in the process they have dumbed down the episodes and have taken the easy way out by writing a monster-of-the-week kind of show. This used to be a much smarter and original show. I can only hope that they improve it eventually. 4. So much for trying to prove that Kari can act without having to show off her doctor-given attributes. This was her episode, no doubt, or should I say 'their' episode. I wonder what would happen if they went on a world where the earth was in the middle of an ice age (like in the first episode), would she still run around in some low-cut skimpy shirt/dress??? I wonder. 5. Lastly, just a question to any guys out there. I figure breasts are breasts to you all, but don't you think implanted breasts, however large they make a women, look odd??? They're so unnatural looking, I can't see how guys would like them....well, I guess I can.... Anyway, I don't want to start some huge discussion on women's breasts or turn this into a more breast-oriented newsgroup than it already is. Just curious that's all. Don't you guys think natural is better???

I have always been wanting some conflict between characters, as well as some hint of progression for the characters. This shows that JRD's death did have some impact on the crew -- and that each of them view the death differently. It is perfectly normal for Quinn to blame himself for all the negative events that have passed, but overlook the good it has done. It's perfectly natural to question the consequences of one's own actions, especially if they are life-or-death. I'd like to see more of this conflict between the cast members. Makes it more believeable that they are on an ongoing journey, and not just a turnstile. Greg

I agree completely. I thought whatever was between Quinn and Wade at the beginning was credible and rather sweet. People can change, though, and the current not-a-flirtation between Remmy and Wade is interesting. Perhaps a more capable actress than Woo-woo could make Maggie interesting, and make a romance with Quinn believable. > >4. Someone here supplied a URL with vidcaps of a nude Woo-woo from some silly B-movie she made recently, so I went to take a look. (I forget the URL, so don't ask me.) They are indeed fake, and they have been rendered slightly dissimilar, in an unnatural way. No, I don't like them. They are distractingly artificial. -- Stop by http://www.fred.net/thirteen/

My husband won't watch it anymore with me because I keep making sarcastic derogatory comments about Beckett... I miss the spark. What is with all the fighting?? They didn't used to snipe at each other this *MUCH*!!! And the writing is NOTICEABLY worse. I know they are grieving for the Professor, but the dialogue doesn't seem to ring true anymore. I MISS the way Sliders used to be. If Arturo can't come back, I think the best way to try to bring life back to Sliders would be to get rid of Maggie and start having a sort of "rotating" thing going where Quinn, Wade and Remmy occasionally take people with them...and keep doing it until they hit a guest Slider who "clicks" with them and can give back some of the special charisma that was lost when Arturo died. It won't ever be the same, but it doesn't have to keep getting worse!! Mara 00535@nhmccd.campus.mci.net ************* "Can't stop the world...why let it stop you?" --The Go-Go's *************

Cast is sweet and kind and friendly to each other: no ratings. Cast is nasty and backbiting and psychopathic (and show features near-nudity and gorgeous plastic women): big ratings. It's not about quality entertainment anymore; it's about money.
