This may get at the premise of the show and not be answerable but what does the timer do? Seems that you have to "hit the button" on the time to slide when the timer says it is time. Also if it was "fixed" once why isnt it still fixed? Thanks.

The timer was originally a timer.(duh!) In the first episode EVER, Quinn had the timer built so he "would never be stranded on another world". A slider simply had to set the timer to how much time they wanted to stay in the next world. Quinn, Arturo, and Wade decided that they wanted to stay for 2 hrs in the next world. Quinn set the timer to 2 hrs, and "hit the button". Unfortunately, Quinn made some adjustment to the timer's controls(we don't know WHAT, but the first Quinn double Quinn met warned him about the timer. We don't know WHAT Quinn shouldn't have touched either) The three sliders hopped into the vortex. After they slid, the vortex moved throgh the wall in Quinn's house, and out onto the street, where it sucked in Rembrandt and his car. The four sliders were on their first slide. Unfortunately, it was to a world covered in ice and into the path of a very large "ice tornado". The group did'nt think it would do any harm to just "hit the button" and slid "home". Too bad it wasn't "earth prime" ,their world, so now they must keep sliding till they get home. (very quantumn leap-like, no?) The timer always seems to get broken about every other show, but when the sliders say it's "fixed" they mean it can open the vortex again, not take them home. Personally, I knda figured they would eventually get home and that it would be totally changed since they left and would be better for them if they just kept sliding. The ending to 1st ep. 2nd. sea. was kinda corny. Oh well, the show must go on! (as lnog as FOX doesn't interfere)
