Messie is an oceanic, reptilian cryptid that is said to live in Lake Murray, South Carolina. Its name is a portmanteau of "Murray" and "Nessie."

Messie is a lake monster which shares many similarities to Scotland’s Nessie, although it is said to be more aggressive in nature. It has been reported as somewhat serpentine in appearance, but is believed to be a plesiosaur like the creature from Loch Ness.

The first report of Messie comes from one Gilbert Little of Irmo, SC, in 1933. Little claimed to have spotted the creature while boating on the lake with his family as a child stating that if he had known of an aggressive aquatic creature in residence in Lake Murray then he would never have gone near the water. Another notable encounter with the creature occurred on April 3, 2012. Two boys, Gray Ward, 15, and Li Ward, 12, were fishing on the lake when a large animal bit Gray’s line. Gray broke his wrist in a vain attempt to save his rod, and the creature dragged the boat over a mile across the lake. Eventually, Gray released the rod which immediately disappeared beneath the surface. thumb|220x220px">thumb|220x220px Category:Aquatic-based Cryptid>Category:Aquatic-based Cryptid Category:Lake Monster>Category:Lake Monster Category:Cryptids>Category:Cryptids Category:Plesiosaurs>Category:Plesiosaurs Category:Reptile>Category:Reptile Category:Reptiles and Amphibians>Category:Reptiles and Amphibians Category:North America (Minus Mexico and Caribbean)>Category:North America (Minus Mexico and Caribbean) Category:Cryptid Wiki>Category:Cryptid Wiki {{CryptidsNavBox}}
