    Background information

    In the far, distant past, at least one Ancient became an ancestor in Lord Protector's family line, passing down the Ancient Technology Activation gene to him. {{Cite|SGA|The Tower}}

    He was the leader of his people and the Tower City-ship. Since he had the Ancient Technology Activation gene, he had access to several Ancient technologies left behind from the Lanteans 10,000 years ago, including a Control chair. He has a son and a daughter named Tavius and Mara. When he learned of Lt. Colonel John Sheppard's possession of the gene, he wanted him to marry Mara so that Tavius wouldn't ascend to the throne. He was slowly poisoned by Otho over the duration of several months via his food, until he finally died in 2006. The truth of his condition was discovered by Dr. Carson Beckett shortly before his death, but too late to save his life. While Sheppard and Beckett came to believe that Tavius was responsible, they were unaware that he was conspiring with Otho to murder the Lord Protector and take power. The plot was eventually exposed and Otho killed and Tavius presumably imprisoned. {{Cite|atl|The Tower}}
